About

I spent so many years alive without living. Trapped in an ever expanding body, I went into survival mode and to escape the physical and mental pain of obesity I became numb and shut everyone out. Despite being raised in a home where we went to church regularly, I never understood who God was until I started attending church after college. On May 24, 2003 I admitted that I was not in control and asked God to forgive me and put my trust in him. (http://www.matthiasmedia.com.au/2wtl/)

Since then I have been striving to live a life worthy of a disciple of Christ. I still fail, and I am by no means perfect, but with God’s grace every day is a journey on that path. One thing I am passionate about is to be healthy so that I can LIVE life rather than just being alive. John 10:10 often comes to my mind: “The thief [Satan] comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I [Jesus] came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

On July 7, 2005 I had RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery, and through that and a lot of blood, sweat and tears in the gym I have been able to lose almost half my body weight. In 2010 I competed, er participated, in my first sprint triathlon and I was hooked. A competitive swimmer growing up, I’ve grown to love it again as an adult. Cycling has grown on me and running, well, let’s just say that it’s a good thing it’s at the end or I probably wouldn’t ever start.

With the support of my friends and family I continue to train and compete (against myself!) and even though it’s hard I love it. “If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it.” (A League of Their Own).
